DART Coalition Releases Community Substance Abuse Survey

[ENTER SURVEY HERE] D.A.R.T, Developing Alcohol Responsibility Together, a project of Saint Barnabas, is a State-funded grant program aimed at protecting our young adults ages 18-25, from the dangers of underage and excessive drinking, prescription drugs, heroin and more.

The organization recently released a statewide survey in an effort to better understand the issues from the point of view of community members. The following survey was released to TLS, as well as to other media outlets throughout the State.

#1 and #2, you may want to bury your head in the sand, but simply open your eyes at the next Sholom Zochor you attend and you may be shocked and appalled at what a level alcohol and other substance abuse is reaching in our “machaneh”. Thank you TLS for giving us the opportunity to help those trying to help us help ourselves. and by the way, smoking is a gateway to harder things. check it out. who smokes anymore except yeshiva boys?

To # 2 . Every single item refers to children in this town, so stop trying to avoid, cover up, ignore, stick your heads in the sand.
They drink, smoke, use internet, (moderated) commit crimes and use illegal drugs.

I think its a nes these things are not more rampant. Every kosher release has been assered. Besides for stamp/coin collecting. So, what’s an active boy to do to relax a little ? So, for 95% of bochurim its enough to go for a walk, shmooz, have a football catch etc…. But for the other 5%….. Dudi B

We cannot hide from the problems forever. Our neighbors’ problems are also our own.

Prescription drug misuse was identified as a priority.
How do you see prescription drug misuse manifesting itself in this community?
What factors in our community do you believe are causing or contributing to prescription drug misuse?

I was going through a difficult time and suffering from depression and anxiety.I believed all the hype in the frum magazines about the available help from the mental help professionals. And guess what?now I have the same issues as before but I’m also addicted to medication with side affects.

PS I an NOT saying you shouldn’t seek help or medication but research the side effects very carefully first and don’t expect any miracles.
