As Lakewood schools and Morah programs end and summer programs begin, TLS is reminding readers in these dangerously hot temperatures to pay extra attention to a change in schedule with regards to dropping off children.
Unfortunately, many incidents surrounding children being left in vehicles occurred when there was a change in drop-off schedule, and the other parent would sometimes do the drop-off.
With the heat wave continuing and heat index values reaching over 100 degrees, we are reminding parents to make it a habit to turn around and check their vehicle before exiting it. The interior of a vehicle can reach fatal levels within minutes.
It’s also recommended that day camp directors or morahs call a parent should a child not show up. In multiple cases, it was a morah who saved a child’s life by calling about a child missing.
Thank you TLS for this important and very timely reminder.
I KNOW OF AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED JUST YESTERDAY WITH A VERY AMAZING MOM WHO TOTALLY FORGOT THAT HER BABY WAS WITH HER AND LEFT HER IN THE CAR IN THE SWELTERING HEAT. THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE!!!! SAFEGUARDS NEED TO BE PUT IN PLACE
It wouldn’t hurt to leave a hand written reminder that your baby is in the back seat.
2)If you do leave your baby in the car on a hot day, leave another hand written note to leave the air conditioning on + don’t turn off the vehicle + lock the doors & make sure you have a spare key.
Why is it such a common occurence that people need reminders that their child is in their car?? your children are your most precious possesions and if your too busy with a million other things that you forget where your children are maybe its time to reevaluate your role in life, your priorities and where your focus should be!
