By: A Daf Hashovua enthusiast. As the winter comes to an end, now is the time to take stock of one’s accomplishments this season.  

Although this may be true for Gashmius, it is definitely more so for Ruchnius.

This winter, I joined a new program (new for myself, that is).

Daf Hashovua, the learning program that covers one Blatt a week, learning B’Iyun with a review program, is actually over twelve years old.

But when they opened kollelim in Lakewood for Masechta Megillah six months ago, I jumped at the chance to join a Chabura.

I like learning and understanding, but I also like a structured pace that has forward movement.

The idea of covering 52 Blatt a year, as well as finishing Masechta Megillah over a winter appealed to me.

When I joined, I was happy to become a part of a Chabura in my local Shul.

But I was pleasantly surprised to see that I hadn’t only joined with a few friends in my neighborhood, but had joined a worldwide movement with over 5000 participants worldwide.

The website dafaweek.org  offered me all types of Maarei M’komos as well as Chaburos from established Talmidei Chachamim from all over the world.

I quickly became addicted to Harav Moshe Ahron Friedman’s daily Shiur on the Daf, something I could listen to in the car, at lunch, or in the Bais Medrash.

Rav Moshe Ahron always says it on the mark, and you can see how he is living in the Daf.  That’s why it was no surprise that when Rav Moshe Ahron came to visit Lakewood this week, he chose to say a special Shiur to Lomdei Daf Hashovua in Lakewood.  Starting with this week’s Daf, he maneuvered  through various Sugyos discussing Yakneha”z, the mixture of Kiddush and Havdallah we will be saying the second and last day of Pesach.  The Shiur was packed with people from all over, and I felt connected to all of them, knowing that a Daf Gemara is what is holding us all together.

And then a couple of days later, I happened to have found myself in BMG, something which (unfortunately) doesn’t happen too often, and I was shocked by what I saw.

A signed proclaimed that a new Daf Hashovua Chabura was opening in Yeshiva for this upcoming Zman!

It seems that quality stuff gets everywhere, and now our finest Yungetleit will also be toiling in the same Daf!  The sign wrote about how the sugyos of the upcoming Masechta, Moed Katan, are intricate, yet very practical, as all the Halachos of Chol Hamoed are discussed there.  So now I definitely can’t wait to start the new Masechta after Pesach, with all the other  Lomdim.  And take my advice- you will love it too!
