A cyclist struck by a vehicle in Lakewood last night is hoping drivers pay extra caution on the roads during the summer months.
The cyclist relates that he was riding his bike (pictured) late last night near Route 9 when he was struck.
“When I got to Route 9, I pulled onto the sidewalk. Soon after I pulled up to a corner, I saw a car that had stopped, and therefore continued into the street,” the cyclist says. “But apparently the driver did not see me, and pulled away from the stop sign, as all he looked for was oncoming traffic.”
The cyclist was struck and thrown from his bike, but luckily not injured.
“Thank G-d he was going slow and I’m fine – though my bike isn’t. I got a few scratches and we worked out the situation.”
The cyclist, who says he’s been in many close calls with vehicles, is looking to get this message out to drivers:
“WATCH OUT FOR BIKERS AND PEDESTRIANS!”
P.S. “If anyone has a cheap used bike with 26 inch wheels, please contact me.”

More important bikers be aware of cars and assume that they do not see you!!
PS the bike is not totaled, the wheel can be is bent and may be possibly be fixed, take it to a shop
As long as the cyclist was wearing a reflector and had flashers on his bike, he is 100% correct that drivers need to be more careful. But if he was a black blur……..
Sorry I dont have a bike
Why won’t the vehicle’s liability insurance pay to repair/replace the bike?
Attention pedestrians and cyclists: once a car has stopped at a stop sign, DO NOT cross in front of it UNLESS the driver makes eye contact and acknowledges your entry. It is simply unsafe. You can be right, but you may be dead right.
You would be well advised to walk/ride behind the car that is stopped.
I wonder how traffic would be if all the cars were painted black and turned off their lights off and then drove at night. who’s fault would that be?
Maybe the person who hit you and ” the issue Was worked out” Should be buying you the new bike. It is much cheaper than the ticket and insurance points.
That wheel is beyond repair and must be replaced. I’m not saying that it was the cause of the accident, but a close look at the bike will show that there is no front light (only a reflector). If someone is riding at night the right precautions must be taken.
Stay safe.
So, it looks like now the blame is con cyclists and pedestrians.
As a drivers you hace the right of not being stopped.
A week ago I saw a car to stop as state la requires for pedestrians. And one of the cars behing did not want “waste” 2 min to allow the pedestrians to cross and pass the front car by the right. Almost struck the pedestrians.
So people do not stop driving selfish until the injuried is one of their own family. Maybe not.
Muy question is?
Do we like to hear advice or we just want to drive as if the road is only for a selfish driver?
Its ashame the selfish generation we are becoming…..
