A cyclist is being hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Lakewood.

The accident happened around 1:00 PM on Cross Street.

The teen suffered a head injury and is being transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

The impact of the accident left a hole in the windshield. He was wearing a helmet.

Lakewood’s Traffic Safety division is responding to the scene. The road is being partially shut for the investigation.

“He went right through the windshield. There’s no question the helmet saved his life,” a Hatzolah member told TLS.

    • My kids know that if they ride their bike without a helmet their bike will go in time out (locked in the storage room). I care too much about them to let them succumb to the peer pressure of riding without a helmet and I tell them as much.
