The Council of Chabad Chazonim announced today that they will be offering a series of free programs for chazonim starting with a Cantorial Master Class and Classical Voice Workshop on January 24th, 2016. Led by Dovid Babinet, a classically trained musician and singer with extensive experience in cantorial repertoire, the Master Classes and Workshops provide opportunities for anyone who has an interest in chazonus to learn more about what’s involved and work on building cantorial skills.
“Do you fancy yourself a chazzan?” asked Babinet. “Here’s your opportunity to see what it’s all about. We also have workshops for experienced chazonim who want to advance even further.”
The Council of Chabad Chazonim is a home for people who enjoy using their voices to serve Hashem and uplift the hearts of their friends and families. The group regularly gets together to sing and discuss chazzonus – with the goal of perfecting the artform. Those who attend the workshops and master classes can expand their knowledge of nusach, network with other Chazonim and work on building their careers. Guests appearing before the Council include chazonim Dovid Reinhold from Boro Park, Yussi Rose from Flatbush, Yanky Litchman, Arye Rubin and Ezriel Frankel from Lakewood. The successful pop/wedding singer Yoeli Falkowitz from Williamsburg as well as opera singers David Moore and Ron Donenfeld have also collaborated with the Council.
The council was started ten years ago by Chazan Levke Kaplan. Babinet has been involved in the Council’s leadership more recently. Babinet has more than 20 years experience in classical music, including the experience of working with some of the world’s leading opera singers. He attended conservatory for his musical training.
Spaces for the Cantorial Master Class and Classical Voice Workshop are limited.
