  1. Tosfos brings down that the last 15 thousand yidden by the magayfa of the miraglim were spared and didn’t die. They waited till the the 15th of av and they then rejoiced realizing that the magayfa was over and they would live.

The question is why? and how? Why did these 15 thousand merit to escape death when all others over the age of twenty died? How did they do it?

An answer i once heard by kinnus on tisheh biav, is that every year on tisheh bav all the men would put on tachrychim an lay in a dug grave. They would daven to hashem to be spared and for forgiveness. They would say good bye to their family’s not knowing if they would wake up in the morning. As they lay in their graves with tiffelos on their lips, yes they would put their trust in Hashem that they would be saved and he would forgive them, but there was always a hope that they would not be among the dead. There was always a chance that it could be yenim who would die and they would live. The last fifteen thousand had no one else to rely on. There was no one else it could be. Their tiffelos were 100 percent directed towards Hashem and Hashem was their only hope. Those tiffelos, those tiffelos that were davened with zero hope besides Hashem were listened to and they were saved.

With whats happening today with this virus we must cry out to Hashem with a davening that has no other hope. We have to stop thinking that “as long as it doesnt effect me” or “it only effects the elderly”. We have no clue where this is going. We have no idea who this can effect and we have no idea how long it could last. Cry out to Hashem hes the only one that can help!!
