Cops Draw Their Weapons At Man With Toy Gun, ‘Bullet Proof’ Vest

VIDEO: A man playing with a toy gun and wearing a bullet proof vest, had a real gun pointed at him today. A neighbor reportedly phoned police this afternoon after seeing a man walking in front of his home with a gun of some sort, causing the neighbor to be concerned.

Multiple officers responded, and upon arrival pointed their weapons at the ‘suspect’, telling him to drop the gun, a neighbor who took a short video of the incident, tells TLS.

Although the gun turned out to be an airsoft rifle, the ‘suspect’ nevertheless was warned that ‘it is not a joke’. TLS-MPIP2/TLS-CCP.

  1. The neighbors did the right thing by calling the police. If ever in doubt regarding a potentially dangerous situation, call the proper authorities. Best case scenario, it will be nothing, but there is a chance that you may help prevent a tragedy. Better to be safe than sorry.

Several years ago, (not New Jersey), a young man pulled a gun out as a joke in a public place. Many people called the police (rightfully so).
When the cops arrived, they instructed him to lower his “weapon.” He raised the “gun” and aimed it at the police, and he was shot dead. They discovered that the “gun” was a toy. It had been spray painted to hide the orange indicator, giving the appearance of a legitimate gun.

  2. He should have been held accountable in some way for his irresponsible behavior. He’s a little to old to be playing cops and robbers. If he was playing with his kids..he should find something less violent. This is how kids learn all this nonsense!

  3. heard it was a teenage boy. He’s lucky nothing went wrong during this misunderstanding. Hope he (and especially his parents) learned a lesson!

  4. Sorry, if you’re so stupid that you brandish in a manner that appears threatening what appears to be a weapon, you should be held accountable. The responding officers could have been working productively in the time that this clown held his performance.

    Achrayus, and seichel, please.

  5. To All you Liberal protectionist this man broke no law and he can do it again if he pleases, if a legal activity causes public alarm it does not constitute an action illegal, people in N.J are to gunaphobic and this must stop guns are the epitome of good, far more good is done with guns than evil, guns keep evil in check, #5 you call your self Mr. conservative and then write such a silly comment #3 your comment made zero sense are you going to be the game police now? how old someone can be to play what game? you say “he should have been held accountable in some way” oh what way? any way? we should just make up ways to hold people accountable for non crimes because you were Affffffeeeended? The truth is the cops should be held accountable for drawing their weapons without there being an imminent threat. how do you like that! they are the ones that escalated the situations it seems to me the LPD needs some intense training before some innocent man or child gets shot by an over zealous or under trained officer. It is a crime in the first degree to pull a weapon on someone without believing without a doubt that there is an imminent threat to cause grave bodily harm or death to you or someone else

  6. TO #9 (i think you need to get your facts straight)

AS A CONSERVATIVE I PERSONALLY THINK NJ IS TO SENSITIVE AND RESTRICTIVE REGARDING WEAPONS, BUT THAT BEING SAID; LAWS ARE LAWS. AND WHATEVER CRAZY CONSTRICTING LAWS WE HAVE, ARE TO BE ENFORCED!

NJ GUN LAW(definition): Firearm or firearms means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, assault firearm, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectile,
ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing, by means of a cartridge or shell or by the action of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances. IT SHALL ALSO INCLUDE without limitation, any firearm which is in the nature of an AIRGUN, SPRING GUN or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a SPRING, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas, or vapor, air or compressed air, or
is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person.

When the state recently banned all types of assault weapons it also made the possession of all semi-automatic air rifles and B-B guns illegal. This kid was running around with a mock airsoft ak-47.
B-B and pellet pistols are subject to all of the above mentioned laws affecting air guns plus a statewide carry restriction. This means that since a spring action pellet pistol is literally considered a handgun in New Jersey, under NJ statute 2C:58-4, an individual needs carry permit to possess a BB pistol on their person. Therefore, carrying this type of an air handgun without a valid permit is a third degree offense according to 2C:39-5(b) and thus a conviction is punishable by up to five years in jail. However, the law does provide somewhat of a safety net for youthful offenders. If the individual is under the age of 21 when they acquire, possess, carry, fire, or use the pellet pistol without proper supervision then the charge is downgraded to a fourth degree and this drastically lowers the chances of incarceration. It should also be noted that even though paintball guns are not defined as a pistol or firearm in NJ they are considered a “weapon”. Therefore possession of a paintball gun with an unlawful purpose is a third degree crime punishable up to five years of incarceration.

-BOTTOM LINE, GO IN THE WOODS AWAY FROM ANYONE WHO CAN SEE & PLAY! Not in the back yard where you can cause a serious public alarm. Personally if i had seen someone with an ak-47, and a tactical raid vest on running around (i didnt see an orange tip on that TOY), – i personally would be very alarmed.
I too had these airsoft guns as a kid, and we went into the woods, away from any people & played all day long.
