PHOTO: [Click on photo to enlarge] “Its obvious that the gangs are feeling the pressure from the police department”, Committeeman Meir Lichtenstien told TLS today, after he was notified about an expletive statement directed at the Police Department was marked on a home in the Park Avenue and 4th Street area today by an individual(s) claiming to be from the 18th Street Gang.
Just this past Friday, Committeeman Lichtenstien joined off-duty police officers, members of the PBA, in cleaning the areas in town hit hard by graffiti, as reported here on TLS.
“We’re going to be back out cleaning again”, says PBA Local 71 President Gary Przewoznik. “This isn’t going to stop us”.
This past Friday was the second time off-duty officers took their personal time off to clean the graffiti around town.
Apparently though, the gangs aren’t appreciative of that.
maybe the police are feeling the pressure
for the record: this i s a very nice gesture. much appreciated and shows that people on the police force care.
more neds to be done to combat the actual gangs though. and while they got the message that the police are not happy wiht their markings, this is not going to be enough to get them to leave town.
To me, its obvious there is no askan quite like Meir L. U tell me, whgo else goes, with his own hands, takes a shmatteh, with soap & water & starts cleaning graffitti. Halevei all our committe men should be like that. Go Meir ! We love u. Dudi.
why dont the people help the cops , they just sit there and watch shame shame, and let these gangs pay for the paint
I don’t know what an askan is, but the cops did the same too. twice. just sayin…
why dont some yeshiva boys go out and help the cops do the painting during thier break.
What’s obvious to me is that Meir Lichtenstien is a real askan. While some ppl opffer lip-service, Meir’l gets down & dirty & clean the graffitti with his own hands. Go Meir ! U Rule !! DB.
Db didn’t you already say that?
Because of the governer’s cutbacks, it is actually getting worse. NJ is 6th in the country for the highest rate of gang problems.
