Committeeman Langert Looks To Make Good On His Campaign Promises Over The Next 3 Years

Committeeman Steven Langert announced at the Reorganization that he plans on fulfilling his campaign promises over the next three years. During his campaign for this new term, Langert said he would work on improving Parks and Recreation, Social Services and bring Responsible Spending to the Township Committee.

In regard to Parks and Recreation, Langert says he hopes over the next three years to improve, maintain and upgrade pocket parks and recreational facilites around town.

As for Social Services, Langert says he hopes to lobby the County, State and Federal Governments to bring more money to the various social service organizations within Lakewood, to be able to provide vital services to residents.

Also during his campaign, Langert said he would continue working on lowering the bond debt and to keep the tax rate stable. In 2010, Langert says, 11,000 of the 19,000 homes saw a tax decrease, while in 2011, all 19,000 homes saw a tax decrease.

“If I am honored with your vote, and I am fortunate enough to once again represent Lakewood for the next three years, one term you will hear from me quite often, is the term of ‘responsible spending'”, Langert said during his campaign.

“I believe it is incumbent upon the Lakewood officials to watch our tax dollars in a responsible manner”, Langert says. “Before we spend anything, we need to ask ourselves this following question: Is what we are looking to do, responsible”. “Are we spending money on things which the Township needs, that our residents deserve, and is it going to make Lakewood a better place for everybody to live”. 1. the board of ed had NOTHING to do with the lowering of the tax rate- the townsip used all the surplus money they had to keep the rate the same. the taxes are going to spike this year- watch and see…

  2. Number 9 is right. The surplus money the township had for unforseen costs and to pay obligations was used to make it seem that taxes did not go up when in reality costs from the previous year were the same except the township did not take in enought money to cover its obligations. Now that surplus will have to be made up and taxes will go up too. It’s like the old saying goes “they robbed Peter to pay Paul” except township emergency funds are Peter and the tax payers are Paul.
