The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Sunday, June 29, affecting Ocean County and southeastern Burlington County.
The alert indicates that air pollution levels may reach concentrations that are unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.
Health officials urge residents in these groups to limit outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise, to reduce potential health risks. While most people will not be affected, vulnerable individuals may experience breathing difficulties or other symptoms due to increased levels of ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter.
Sunday’s weather is expected to be partly sunny and hot, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s. Humidity will be lower compared to previous days, but residents are still advised to take precautions.
Anyone with respiratory or cardiac conditions should monitor symptoms closely and consult a healthcare provider if necessary.

Recall Issued on Ocean County’s June 29th Air Supply Due to High Levels of Pollution
The NJDEP has issued a recall on Ocean County’s June 29th air supply due to high levels of air pollution that could effect highly sensitive individuals.
“Ocean County residents can return their tainted air and receive a fresh, crisp supply of air on the following day,” Ocean County Air Commissioner, Ron Lungsfeld, told reporters on Friday.
Mr. Lungsfeld also said that Sunday’s tainted air is currently under investigation.
“Whoever is responsible for contaminating Sunday’s air supply will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.
However, Mr. Lungsfeld shot down rumors that a group of party-goers who launched thousands of bottle rockets into the sky last week at a local park were responsible for the poor quality of air.
“Those objects that were launched into the sky last week were not fireworks,” Mr. Lungsfeld said, “they were nothing more than ordinary missiles. And missiles have been found to be completely safe for the environment and for sensitive individuals.”
