A fire that started in the kitchen area of an apartment inside a building in Jackson this morning was contained, thanks to a sprinkler system, according to officials.
The fire broke out at The Ponds at Jackson on Freehold Road.
”Fire sprinklers have proven their effectiveness time and time again,” said Fire Official Stanley O’Brien. “The system operated quickly and only activated in the area of the blaze allowing the other residents the ability to return to their homes. This wouldn’t be possible without a working sprinkler system within the residential living units.”
A trapped occupant was rescued by Jackson police, though several officers and a civilian were injured during the fire.
Two apartments were deemed uninhabitable.
All apartments and rental properties need to have them. If not then fire extinguishers will do.
