UPDATED: Chosson from London Viciously Assaulted in Attempted Robbery in Lakewood; Another Frum Resident Robbed

breaking news tlsFIRST REPORT: A resident from London, England, who got engaged just days ago to a Lakewood girl, was viciously assaulted in an attempted robbery in Lakewood early this morning, TLS has learned.

The Chosson was walking on Ridge Avenue near Somerset Avenue shortly after midnight, when a small vehicle pulled up alongside him, Captain Greg Meyer tells TLS.

Two males exited the vehicle, and demanded his phone and then began beating him.

“They began punching him, kicking him and beating him,” Meyer said.

During the assault, the Chosson managed to grab the pants of one of his attackers, Meyer says, at which point the attacker yelled to leave go of him. The attackers then got back into their vehicle and fled.

The Chosson was left with swelling on his face, a black eye and bloodied up, Meyer says.

Hatzolah responded to the scene and treated the victim.

The attackers were described as approximately 5′ 9′, and wearing dark hoodies.

Police believe however, that this assault may be related to a robbery that occurred in the area moments prior, in which a Frum resident was robbed on Lanes Mill Road, Meyer says.

In that incident, a black male exited a vehicle and demanded the resident empty his pockets. After giving him $10, the suspect then went through the victim’s pockets. He made off with $60, his license and other papers, Meyer said. The victim was not injured.

Meyer says police are investigating whether these incidents are related to a call prior about a suspicious vehicle in the area where the incidents occurred.

The incidents are under investigation.

UPDATE: A family member of the victim tells TLS the British Embassy is involved with the investigation. In addition, the family member says, the Scotland Yard (similar to the FBI) says they will monitor the investigation and get involved if necessary.

  1. Unfortunately, New Jersey does not allow concealed carry (or any carry for regular citizens). Otherwise, it would be advisable to introduce the attackers to Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson.

  2. More likely with concealed carry laws
They would already be familiar with Smith and Wesson while the victim would now first be introduced with what could have been even more tragic results

  3. Victim was hospitalized and it doubt was a theft incident as they did not ask for money, the phone was not asked but they try to take it, so police or alike can not be contacted.

  4. #2 Dave. Therein lies the problem; all decent citizens should become familiar with Mssrs. Smith, Wesson, Remington, Colt, Berreta, et.als. Which would be a lot easier if concealed carry were an available option. In today’s increasingly violent world it is nothing more than prudence to be prepared to defend yourself and your family.

I say all f this with the utmost respect for LPD and LEO’s elsewhere: they simply cannot be everywhere at once. I also recommend that any person who does elect to be ballisticly prepared to get lots of training and practice and to know the laws of self defense.
