Children Seen Walking on Partially Frozen Lake

lake cara frozenSeveral children were spotted today walking on the partially frozen lake. Parents are urged to remind children that despite it appearing frozen, the lake can actually have only a very thin layer of ice at the surface, giving it a frozen appearance.

Falling through the ice into the frigid water temperatures can prove fatal to young children. [TLS-MK/File photo]

  1. Anyone who has lived in Lakewood for any length of time knows it hasrn’t been cold enough for lake to freeze. It takes over a week of below freezing for lake to be safe.

  2. I remember a few years ago reading a two (I think) brothers who tried to walk across the lake on a Shabbos and fell it when the ice broke. They tried to get back on the ice but it kept breaking. The older brother put the younger one on his back and swam, breaking the ice as he was going until he got to the shore. I still cry every time I think about it. Please don’t let your kids walk across the ice ever!!!
