In response to the concerned parents, the Safety Pond (hence the name) is a couple inches deep in the winter to allow such activities. It is completely frozen. No one was in danger and many parents were there watching. Gut Voch.

The “duck pond” is only about a foot deep. At this point it is probably frozen down to the bottom. The main part of the lake however has spots that are ove 20 feet deep.

Anybody remember the good old days when there were maybe a handful of people living “across the lake.” Well when the lake was frozen, the oilam used to walk across it to daven in Yeshiva on Shabbos morning.

In the good old days, when we walked across the lake, we did so with the permission of the township. Rumor had it that they would test the ice with a truck but I’ve never seen that. But when it was frozen solid, they would turn around the “no ice skating” sign and to show that ice skating was allowed. That has not happened in probably over 10 years, possibly due to “global warming”. Incidentally, my 8 year old son was playing hockey on the pond on Friday and it is something he looks forward to! The fact that the pond was frozen on a Friday when they are off in the afternoon, and the weather was beautiful (albeit cold), was a brachah.

lakewood?

Why does everyone have to say something negative all the time. The safety pond is not deep. It is frozen let them play. Let the kids have a good time. Oh wait children are not aloud to have fun. Fill the pond and the lake in for that matter. We can build houses or schools on it. Then complain in a few years that the town let them build on it. Because now it is sinking for they let us build on a former lake.
