Chief Lawson: Gang Alert Circulating Via Email/Text, False

LPD small LPDTLS has received countless emails from worried/frantic residents about an apparent new gang activity in the Lakewood/ Jackson area. The email and text alerts have heavily begun making their rounds yesterday. After researching the matter, we suspected it to be a hoax. To be sure on the matter, TLS contacted Police Chief Rob Lawson a short time ago. The Chief confirmed it, saying “It’s bogus”. In the future, should you receive a similar alert, please forward it to us and we will try-to the best of our ability, to look in to the matter as soon as possible. The following is one of the versions we received: “Spread the word out of a new gang activity that just started to roll out in the Jackson, Lakewood area. The initiation process consists of locating a baby doll (looks like a real baby) on a car seat or basket on the side of the road appearing that they abandoned him/her. They are also using a box with a Puppy in it. The whole concept is to draw the attention of drivers in the area and get them to stop and then they can attack. They are (moderated) the women and beating the man to almost killing them. Lakewood hospital had already a few people that got to the ER almost dead and traumatized. PLEASE BE CAREFUL ON ANY RURAL ROADS MOSTLY IF YOU SEE SOMETHING STRANGE, DO NOT STOP. CALL THE POLICE AND LET THEM KNOW WHERE AND THE SITUATION”.

and when LCSW gets beaten or killed for your stupidity you will wish you called the cops, at least the guy from all the way towing knows to call the cops and not to directly intervene, if you see suspicious or dangerous activity you need to call the POLICE –>dial 911a community WATCH organization<—", they have no business or authority intervening

These urban myths/hoaxes are fueled by the internet and text messaging. We are safe once again. Remember call the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200, press 0 to report any suspicious activity. LCSW and Mr Goodman are also eyes and ears of the community and do great jobs, but should not be the first ones called. They are out there on the lookout, like the police department.
Thanks .
