PHOTO: A piece of chewing gum delayed a flight nearly a half hour this morning, a Lakewood resident on the flight tells TLS. The Newark bound flight was set to depart Chicago at 8:25 AM, but when a piece of chewing gum was found on an empty seat, a crew was called in to clean the seat, the passenger said.
The flight attendant on the American Eagles flight announced that although the seat was empty, it will be needed on the return flight from Newark, prompting the crew to get the work done while the passengers waited on the nearly-full plane, the passenger said.
The cleaning crew arrived, removed and cleaned the seat (pictured), and 27 minutes later, the flight was ready for takeoff. TLS.

There was probably something more major going on and this was just a diversion of the real reason for the delay!
so I guess that “chanaya yom tov lipa katznelinbogenstein” maybe was not telling a lie when he said that his bus got stuck on a piece of gum if a plane could get stuck on a piece of gum

Does no one else but me wonder why they had to do this on a plane loaded with passengers as opposed to after they land and have to do maintenance work anyway?

It’s extremely important news when gum is sitting on a seat and goes above certain alltitude it can be extremely dangerous and turn into a makeshift bomb. That being said its pure hashgacha pratis that a Lakewood resident on the flight was speared and according to most local poskim he will have to bench Gomel.
Also on the news today a lane in shoprite was closed for a half hour because a tomato sauce spill.
Was the gum tested for DNA and linked to any arrests?
