Reader-submitted: “This envelope was mailed on October 7, 2019. It came back to us as undeliverable because the PO Box was closed. The date of the return is July 29, 2020. This is important not only in general, but specifically with the upcoming election.”

  1. Same thing happened to me.
I also received mail from state UI for employees of mine, that if I wanted to respond, I needed to respond by a specific date. I got the mail last week, two months after the expiration of that date. Go figure.

  2. This just shows, like Joe and Obama are saying, that you need to get your ballots in the mail early.

The post office cease decommissioning sorting machines and will continue with overtime until the election so you will be fine. Congress also is debating for more funding. Just mail your ballots as soon as you get them.

    • Right, “the system is broken but behave your best and you will be “fine”. Doesnt work for me.

Consider this, we all know that we should never send cash in the mail, because it isnt secure, but ballots? Sure! why not?!

  3. I also had an issue with the Lakewood Post Office. I didn’t pick up my mail for 30 days and they closed the box. I had the PO Box for 18 years and it was paid in full till May 2021.

How do they have the righto close the box? Dont know? There is no manager to speak with. Try calling the 1-800 number and all i can speak and nobody to answer the call other than an automated machine.

So sad where Lakewood Post Office has gone.

Its a huge job to change all the addresses.

  4. Now that the postal union has endorsesed the Biden Harris ticket, and they say that the future of the usps depends on Biden being elected, would you trust usps with your mail in ballots?

      • Yes, his (you decided it was Mr.) comment says a lot about him, namely that he has common sense.

I fail to see the constructive purpose of your comment, would you care to elaborate?

        • A public employee would NEVER EVER compromise his or her duty to country. To even make the suggestion is dishonorable and implies that person questioning would use his employment in business, public service, education for personal gain. Would you take a wedding present or a gift from an outside contractor while working for a firm? I would not suspect someone doing that although I would forbid it in a written policy document.

A little history. It was not always like this. Andrew Jackson, a near-great president ranking with Theodore Roosevelt, had the distinction of starting the spoils system, although it existed earlier. (Walter Isaacson in his excellent biography of Franklin wrote that as postmaster of Pennsylvania Franklin delayed mail to his his competitors in printing, which is something that would be hard for Americans of today to grasp.) However, in 1880 Congress passed the Pendelton Act creating the civil service. Public employees were separated having to buy their jobs and restricted from many political activities.

At any rate, no American would ever sell out their nation no matter to which party they belong. It is a ludicrous suggestion. There is a reason why postal workers and teachers MUST be citizens.

That is the constructive purpose. We are all Americans. We argue and fight. But we all love our country. There is a line we do not cross.

          • He started the system though it existed earlier? How does that work?
Besides your comment is quite incoherent and I cant make heads or tails out of it

  5. USPS union should not be allowed to endorse candidates, as they have a conflict of interest in delivering ballots, leaving open the possibility of fraud…

  6. Teacher,

If you are truly a teacher, you probably should do a little research before posting comments. Please do a search online on indicted usps employees. Please don’t create stereotypes about a union of 300k members. Do you think that every single employee at the usps is honorable?
Perhaps you need do see how far a federal employees has gone to sabotage our president. Have you ever heard the name mr. Klein Smith? He is the FBI attorney who clearly reversed information and created a blatantly false application and submitted it for a fisa warrant application against team Trump? Stay tuned, there will be a number of high ranking former officials to be indicted for the Russian hoax fraud. I am sorry, but he world is sadly far from perfect, and I believe that a usps employee was involved in a some sort of ballot fraud in a recent election.
    Just a thought!
