Chavrei Hakollel Dean: Issue Determined – Engineer Expected Very Soon

simcha greenwald chavrei hakollel tlsVIDEO: TLS met with Charei Hakollel’s Dean – Rabbi Simcha Greenwald – this morning for an update on yesterday’s incident which resulted in the building being closed. R’ Simcha tells TLS that the inspection department was out at the building today and together with several builders have “pretty much figured out what needs to be done”, and our currently waiting for the Engineer to sign off on it.

Asked if they had a dollar amount of the extent of damage or how much the repairs will cost, Rabbi Greenwald says, “we don’t know what it will cost”.

Rabbi Greenwald also thanked the community in general for the out-pour of support shown, and thanked several builders in particular – including Raphael Zucker, Yanky Mermelstien, R’ Chaim Abadi and Shalom Bauman – who have immediately stepped in to assist.

As of now, says Rabbi Greenwald, the programs will be relocated to the Village Park Shul, which was graciously offered by the Rav, Reb Michoel Yardley Shlita.

SCHI, he says, has also offered to use its resources for their computer classes.

  1. R’ Shalom Bauman built my house. He’s a veteran builder. He knows what he’s doing & he knows quality. I’m happy to see he’s involved. If anyoner can fix this problem its R’ Shalom. Tizku l’mitzvos & hatzlochah Rabbah !!

  2. Please! Everybody who wishes to judge what the problem was based on a few pictures that the TLS decided to post is ridiculous! They posted it for news purposes only not for architectural purposes.
    Hatzlacha on the rebuilding!

  3. its amazing to see how many engineers there are in town. it seems that every other guy that posts a comment has a degree in engineering from MIT. keep up the good work guys.

  4. So the floor gave out due to lack of support. I can already see the ad campiagn- Without the “support” of the community we can’t go on !!

  5. Rabbi yardley is such a tzaddik! He is always so welcoming and non-judgemental. We should be zocheh to have more rabbanim like him in our holy community.

  6. Isn’t R’ Chaim Abadi from the minyan? What dose he have to do with Chavrei Hakollel? This makes no sence can some ne please clarify. Also he says where the afternoon program will take place what about the rest of them? Is there any other ones? Wasn’t this program just started? There must be more programs I have been giveing them money for the passed 5 years. Will there be a dinner this year? The food was great the passed 2 years. I need answers please. I hope the building can be fixed and all programs resumed as soon as it can safely happen.

  7. The Builder and Engineer both carry insurance, specificly for this type of incident. As does the township, and so do some building inspectors aswell.(Just like a doctor carries for malpractice) Once the structure is verified that it was built absolutly according to the approved plans, blame will land on those that are ultimately responsible for this failure(i.e. Engineer/ Steel company/ or Chas V’shalom Builder/Owners). Their insurance company will sue and it will be a long drawn out process. Bottom Line – they need money now to fix the floor so the building can be used.

  8. R’ Chaim Abadi is indeed from the minyan. I was the one who told him about what had happenned. His face fell and he said ‘hashm yerachem’and began making calls for more information to see if they needed help!! Mi k’amcha yisroel!! Whether kollel or minyan we need to forge together to do what’s right by hashm society and each other.

  9. kudos to all those who are lsheim shomayim and look past all differences of opinion and are more concerned with kavod shomayim and helping this holy mossad

  10. Rabbi Chaim Abadi Shlit”a is a selfless individual whose influence carries over to the rest of the crew at Minyan Shelanu to be just that – SELFLESS.

The selfssness of the guys at the MInyan is felt by anyone who comes accross the Minyan’s thresh-hold, and any family or individual who was mechuzak through them.

I personally went through rough tides in life. Without Rabbi Abadi and his guyz, I definitely would not be who I am today.

Once again, Rabbi Abadi, you are a living, shining example by reaching out to assist ANYONE in need! I feel honored to have grown so immensely through such a selfless individual as youraelf!

G-d should bless you with long and healthy years!
    Avi J.

*Chavrei Hakollel is on Somerset Avenue and should not be confused with Minyan Shelanu.

*Minyan Shelanu is located on Route 88 near Park Avenue.

  11. If minyam and kollel basically do the same thing – why not just have one organization to save money and combine the staff to offer better services??

If minyam and kollel basically do the same thing – why not just have one organization to save money and combine the staff to offer better services??

    Here is your answer

    They Are very different

The Minyan Shelanu is not a Kollel It is a Shul where every one can feel at home whether you where a white blue or pink shirt, black or blue hat, jeans, t-shirts any kind of yarmulke is welcome and is not looked at in a frowning way. The Minyan Shelanu is a 100% Volunteer Organization there in not 1 person who gets paid. The Minyan Shelanu is open 24hrs a day 7 days a weak There is Kosher Dinner served every night to over 50 people there is a game room with 3 computers, 3 game boxes and pool tables ect, open every night there is a bais medresh you don’t need to enroll to use. Any one can come any time of the day or night and feel at home using it at no charge. There are Daily Minyanim throughout the day with shiurim every night. Check out http://minyanshelanu.com/ for more info on the Minyan Shelanu.

Chavrei Hakollel Is a Kollel For people to come sit down and learn with a schedule. It is geared towards a yeshiva crowed for the purpose of learning torah. The Minyan Shelanu is more towards bringing people closer to yidishkite no mater where you stand. Chavrei Hakolel is more structured and has a hanhala on payroll. Check out http://www.chavreihakollel.com/ For more info on Chavrei hakollel

  13. Chyavrei Hakollel and Minyan Shelanu are as similar as BMG and Touro College!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chavrei Hakollel is an Alternative Educational Yeshiva. It is for a good Bochur who just can’t sit and learn all day. With a more direct and personal approach to each person’s individual abilities, they are able to help each person reach their potential. They have classwes in computers, introduction into business, cullinary classes, auto mechanics, finish carpentry, first aid and other alternative classes that give a Bochur a wholesome Chinnuch. R Chai Karp along with R Binu Greenspoon work tirelessly all day to make sure that each Bochur is shteiging. R Yishai is an amazing persion who is available 24/7 for anyone. R Simcha is out there to pave the way through anything for any and everyone.
This is in no way related to Minyan Shelanu. This in no way takes anything away from R Chaim Abadi as a person. He would and does give the shirt off his back for any person in need. He is truly an amazing oerson.

  14. we would alway like to thank Shalom Bauman for all the good that he has done for the Kollel. He has worked hard a steped up to the plate lots of times and has always been there though good and bad. This has clearly nothing to do with him………..SG

  15. To 27:
The only comparison to BMG that Chavrei Hakollel has is:
They have a comparative amount of students as BMG had when they first started out. In 50 years, these boys will be able to say: “I was from the first boys at Chavrei Hakollel…..” “I remember when…..” etc.

*if Rabbi Chaim Abadi fixes their floor….

  16. to #29

    Quote from 29
“This is in no way related to Minyan Shelanu. This in no way takes anything away from R Chaim Abadi as a person.”

Do you mean to say that Rabbi Chaim Abadi “as a person” (i.e. when YOU need his help) is a great guy? But all his effort and selflessness to the guys at Minyan Shelanu are for naught?!?!?

How dare you have the audacity to WIPE-OUT any sense of the tremendous outcome/results which come from the effort and fruit bearing labor of the numerous VOLUNTEERS at the Minyan under the leadership of Rabbi Abadi Shlit”a.

Every person involved with the Minyan can attest to their great accomplishments. The chutzpah that you have – makes me think that maybe YOU (and u know who u are) are a self-hating ewwwy person.

Refuah Sheleimah. We’ll keep u in mind.
