Chaveirim Opens Applications For New Members

If you have a knack for changing tires, unlocking cars and homes, boosting cars, removing animals from homes, conducting missing-persons searches and other services, Chaveirim may just be for you and now may be the time.

Chaveirim of Lakewood tells TLS they are now reviewing applications for new members.

Chaveirim says the acceptance process is based on many factors. Some of the factors include being available for certain portions of the day or night, where the applicant resides, what kind of experience the member has and other factors which go into the decision making. Applicants should be married.

  1. What is wrong with saving a fellow person from spending 300-500+ on a Lockouts etc. Just for starters.
    “Hatorah Chasa al Mamon Yisroel”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Vchal mi Sheoskin……..

  2. Chaverim in essence is like a gemach. We have a free gemach for just about anything u can think of. So this tow truck service or exterminator in essence is a free gemach service. I don’t see anyone complaining about bais hatavshil which is free. Chosson kallah packages which are free in most cases.

  3. I don’t get you people. How can you sit on this site and publicly mock chaveirim? These are wonderful, kindhearted people doing good just for the sake of helping someone in trouble. It is their choice whether or not they want to be busy with this and yes, it is a chesed. You can say this about any chesed someone does. Maybe its not right to have the Roberts carnival on Chol hamoed because it is taking away from all those putting together events where people have to pay. I am all for not taking away peoples Parnassah. Maybe if everyone is so worried about taking away business from people, they would patronize their local frum Lakewood businesses instead of running to other places to save a buck. Chaveirim is unbelievable!

  4. To 2more cents # 2 –

Thank goodness, others on here have a lot more good “cents” than you.

As a former recipient of Chaveirim’s selfless acts of kindness (on more than one occasion) I can only sing their praises.

For one, they saved me from getting deeper in debt than I am already unfortunately in.

Second, they showed up quickly and literally saved the peace in my household, as opposed to the “paid” towing/locksmith services that seem to have all the time in the world to get to the customer (aside for having a knack to take advantage of “emergencies” and charge the full MSRP.)

Truth is, that I’ve had the pleasure to be on the giving end several times as well, when friends of mine (and some strangers) have called on me for boosts and the like. Should I have ignored the request for a free favor and told my friend or stranded family that they should go searching the full price “Free Market” to receive their needed services??

Have you really deleted the word “Favor” from your humanitarian dictionary???

I say, let’s all pitch in and help make the world a friendlier and less expensive place!! 🙂

  5. some of you guys really missed the boat! the point of chavairim is not to save you money! it is to be a familiar and helpful face in time of emergency or crisis. if C”V my baby is locked in the car or I am stuck in the road at night Ii is not a time that i would like to deal with some profit driven office who will put me on hold till the “next available representative” if you get what i mean.

  6. Go tg go!! That’s the way !!! We need great ppl around to help ! And hey when they will b asked ” did u help ur friend? they will have a lot of what to answer…
    Not just……

  7. To number 2.
As a chaverim member from another town I would to add my two cents. What your saying is understandable. First of all Chaverim is not meant to be the first place to call. People should first call their local locksmith, mechanic etc… Chaverim is really here to help those that either are stuck, cannot afford the exorbitant cost of a tow, in a wierd situation or plain old chessed… Number two is that Chaverim does many, many things that there really aren’t any professionals that they are taking away parnassa from.

I can also tell you numerous stories of cases, where you may be right that they should call a locksmith first, but the time it would take for a locksmith to come, the kid locked in the car may have suffocated cs’v, or their could have been a fire in the house… I could go on and on… Just be thankful that their are people out there that will help you in your time of need. Look at the good. Look at how much chessed goes on in the frum world!!

    Signed,

A Chaverim member of another town but a resident of Lakewood and appreciative of everything Chaverim does!

  8. I’m sorry, but some of you sound like you are from sodom! Please tell me which locksmith is going to go out numerous times during the day, to do lockouts? And when someone comes home from a wedding and it’s 2 o’clock in the morning and they have children with them, how long will they wait till a locksmith shows up? You people should be ashamed of yourselves. I’m willing to bet you that the people who posted here against Chaveirim are bitter people who have an ax to grind and cannot fargin other people.
