Chaveirim & LPD Launch ‘Never Leave A Child In A Car’ Campaign Following Several Incidents

Chaveirim of Lakewood in conjunction with the Lakewood Police Department today have launched their ‘Never Leave Your Child In A Car – Even For A Minute’ campaign.

The campaign couldn’t come soon enough.

Over the last few days, Chaveirim and Hatzolah have received at least three calls of children who were left in a vehicle – though inadvertently.

In one of the incidents, Hatzolah arrived before Chaveirim, and cracked the car window open to release the child.

“These few minutes are critical”, says a veteran Hatzolah Paramedic. “Try it yourself”, says the Paramedic who has unfortunately had to deal with some horrific scenes involving children left in a vehicle.

With temperatures Lakewood has seen in the last few days and weeks, a child left in a closed vehicle for just a couple of minutes, can die.

Over the next day or two, this poster will be hung up in the approximately 200 Shuls around town. TLS.

  1. PUT A SIGN IN EVERY PUBLIC AREA THAT IF YOU LEAVE A CHILDN IN A CAR ALONE THE POLICE DEPT. WILL BE NOTIFIED! SINCE NOT EVERYONE THAT DOES THIS READS THE SCOOP. HOPEFULY THAT WILL SCARE EM ENOUGH!

  2. Why would you want to leave your child alone? It shouldn’t matter hot or cold someone could take them. They could choke, ect, ect. People think maybe you shouldn’t have kids if you’re too busy to take good care of them.

  3. I can’t believe anyone would do this. My daughter ran into a store for just a few seconds and left me in the car with the windows. In just a few SECONDS I was gasping for air. Fortunately I was able to open the door and step out of the car. Children can’t . It is so sad

  4. It doesn’t matter what kind of weather a child is not to be left alone anywhere. If you love and cherish your children you would never ever leave then alone for even a millionth of a second.

  5. “. . . .of children who were left in a vehicle – though inadvertently.”

That’s the problem. If you have your chldren with you, there is no room for “inadvertently.”
What is your problem? Are your children like your hat & jacket or something? Are your children like your umbrella or something? On a jacket or an umbrella you can use the word “inadvertently,” But on a child? On a human being? Please, Gimme a break.

  6. it shocks me, how this can happen so many times in such a short span of time & WE STILL DON’T LEARN FROM OTHERS MISTAKES-TO take it serious-before it C”V happens again to any of OUR children.

WHY DON’T WE LEARN FROM MISTAKES & EXPERIENCES? anyone can help me & give me an answer? THANK YOU

  7. To arrested freedom.

PLEASE DON’T BE SO DUMB TO LEAVE YOUR KIDS OR ANY KIDS IN THE CAR WHILE IT’S RUNNING. IF ITS SO DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO TAKE THE KIDS OUT OF THE CAR THEN DON’T BRING THEM THE LITTLE ERRANDS CAN WAIT!!

    AND LEGAL OR NOT…ITS DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. I agree that it’s unacceptable to leave a child for even a minute but ‘inadvertantly’ can mean many things.
last year I was driving a car that i was unfamiliar with and i stopped to go into a store. i accidentally left the keys in the car (AC on) when i shut my door and the doors locked automatically, unbeknownst to me. so i couldn’t get my son out from the back seat. I was terrified, and got someone to jimmy the lock right away. does that make me a bad parent?? just try to be dan peopel lkaf zchus. and stop bashing and saying that YOU would never be guilty of making mistakes like this…. sometimes mistakes=neglect and sometimes they are just that-mistakes!

  9. maybe when a child is born the parents should be handed an instruction booklet because evidently a lot of people don’t seem to have the most basic common sense when it comes to caring for their children!

  10. And this is why Lakewood has no money in the budget. They waste money on things like this. You dont need this if the parents are to busy to remember their kids in the car but can remember to go back home to pick up the cell phone that they forgot on the table then they should not have children. How do you simply forget you children. The next person that does this should be put in their car with the windows up. Wake up people and you wonder why the country is the way it is.

  11. YL,
You didn’t leave your son in the car inadvertently, you locked the car inadvertently and then did the right thing and got him out immediately. But some people leave their kids in the cat “inadvertently,” & for that I have no tolerance.

  12. “i just ran into the store for a minute and….”—no excuses–yes –you are not the best of parents—yl—-a minute can change your entire life—why would you want to be a potential statistic—next time—and b’h- you have a next time—TAKE YOUR CHILD WITH YOU!!!!
