CHASDEI HASHEM: Lakewood Boy Who Choked on Candy Toy Now Conscious and Talking

The eight-year-old boy who choked on a candy toy on Shiva Asar B’Tamuz and lost consciousness, is now awake and talking, TLS has learned.

The boy was rushed to JSUMC after choking on a toy in a near-fatal incident.

He underwent emergency surgery on Thursday, and on Shabbos regained consciousness. He has since been talking and eating, the family says.

The boy is expected to come home in the next day or two and is expected to make a full recovery.

  1. Thanks for sharing the great news. However we should not let our guard down as a result, and continue to make sure that all dangerous candy is off the shelves. חסדי ד כי לא תמנו

  2. Unfortunately, a simple sucking candy can be a choking hazard too. Likewise taffies or jelly beans. Does that mean all candy should be taken off the shelves? The roller candy is fun and novel. Pity that it became a “thing” to try get the roller out.

  3. obviously a potential fault in the casing can cause the ball to become dislodged so it must be discontinued whereas taffy which has been around for millenia and is even mentioned in the Talmud can be enjoyed safely

  4. Spread the word. Warn people that it is not safe because it is still available on Amazon and people might buy it without knowing about the danger. I called Amazon to remove it, but who knows if they will listen.
