  1. Some additional Potato Latke safety tips from the Institute of Latke Technology:

    When preparing Chanukah latkes:

    1) Remove potato peels and onion peels from the batter that shall be placed in the frying pan.

    2) Place the batter of ground potatoes, onions, eggs etc. in a sturdy frying pan made of non flammable material. Do not use plastic frying pans, or frying pans made from paper!

    3) Do not place the latkah batters or frying pans in a place where they can be knocked over by passing cars, dancing Chanukah celebrants or large-size spinning dreidels.

    4) Most arts and crafts latkes made by children are made of plastic or play doh; they are not suitable for eating. When consumed, they have the capability to destroy human stomachs.

    5) Keep the latkes and frying pans away from the reach of small pets, big pets, worms, crawling ants, termites, spiders and rodents, including mice.

    6) Make sure to locate the kitchen exhaust fans in every kitchen in your home, and turn on the fans immediately at the first sign of burnt onion smells permeating your home.

    7) In the event of a burnt-onion-smelling home, immediately board up the home, and find a temporary dwelling place where you can reside until the odor clears on its own, or until a cleaning crew arrives and treats the home with odor-banishing chemicals.
In the event of heartburns brought on by excessive consumption of onion-filled latkes, seek immediate medical attention.

    8) Never go to bed with an upset stomach brought on by excessive consumption of onion-filled latkes. And never go to bed on Chanukah without having at least one latke, (with or without onions), per day.
