This evening, the committee for the CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) held a hearing for the CDBG grant applicants at the Municipal building. The committee heard from each of those who applied for the grant, and will decide at a later date if they indeed qualify for the funds.
The CDBG is a federally funded program, and each year a committee is set up locally to deal with the application reviews. This year’s liaison to the committee is Deputy Mayor Steven Langert.
There are strict guidlines for the funds, but last year, the 15% earmarked for the public sector services, was focused on soup kitchens and food pantries. Last year’s total alotment was approximately $800,000. 15% of that, approximately $120,000, was earmarked for the public services.
The deadline for completed 2011 CDBG project applications was February 28. TLS.
