PHOTOS & VIDEO [UPDATED 12:25 AM] A vehicle overturned late Sunday evening on Route 88, taking out a pole and damaging about 6 vehicles from the Ford dealership in the process. The single car MVA occurred about 11:30 PM when the driver – who officials believe was drunk – reportedly speeding around the bend in the westbound lane and hit the pole in the opposite lane, cracking it in half, and hit several vehicles while the it flipped onto its roof.

EMS and Lakewood First Aid responded to the scene and managed to pull the driver out of the vehicle.

He was transported to an area Hospital with Paramedics.

Power is out to several homes in the area due to the downed wires.

Route 88 is closed between New Hampshire Avenue and Chambersbridge Avenue for the repairs, which is expected to last into rush hour Monday morning. TLS-CCP/TLS-50/TLS-62.

  1. What a super way to begin “Put The Brakes On Fatalities Day!” Maybe he wanted to get all his aggressive driving out of his system before the big day!

  2. isnt there some thing in the doctor/emt code about responding slower and giving less care to someone who has no concern for other peoples lives and puts his desire for alcohol ahead of everyone else? after all, that could have been 6 kids he plowed into instead of six parked cars?
or maybe, they vow to treat everyone equally?hmm

  3. I was the victim of a horrific drunk driving accident many years ago. I will never forget it, nor will I ever understand why people get behind the wheel inebriated. This irresponsible driver should at least have to pay the dealership for the damaged vehicles and the township for the repairs and cleanup, but all he will get is a small fine (compared to the couple hundred thousand dollars of damage he created) and a couple years suspended license. Let him spend the rest of his life paying off that debt, and see if he doesn’t think twice about getting behind the wheel like that.
