Can you guess what this driver was ticketed for?

A local driver tells TLS he was pulled over and given multiple summonses. Can you guess what one of the tickets was for?

The driver says he was ticketed for ‘unclear plates’ (not the blurred part – that was done to protect his identity)…apparently due to the rim around his plate.

Are these plate rims illegal? I see ppl getting tickets for them all the time. Let’s get the leasing companies to stop putting them on!

Not fair to get a ticket for advertising our lovely leasing company. They’re name beside the plate will suffice for advertisement.

I’ve received 3 such summons over the last year ( each time in a different part of New Jersey)! Truth be told it was instead of far worse tickets so no complaints!

N.J.S. 39:3-33 isn’t ambiguous:

“No person shall drive a motor vehicle which has a license plate frame or identification marker holder that conceals or otherwise obscures any part of any marking imprinted upon the vehicle’s registration plate or any part of any insert which the director, as hereinafter provided, issues to be inserted in and attached to that registration plate or marker.”

The MVC repeats the warning on its own website:

“They must be clean and visible at all times. Even though the rear plate is reflectorized, it must be illuminated to make it visible from 50 feet away at night. If your license plate holders obscure or conceal any lettering on the license plate, you are subject to a fine.”

Keep in mind… the license plate cover may only cover up part of the “New Jersey” or “Garden State” lettering, but there’s a decent good chance you’ll be ticketed all the same.

Is this meant to be an advertisement for Shemesh Day Camp?

Every single dealership does this. Not just the local leasing companies.

When ruach hatorah made the plate covers everyone had the same problem this person must not have been in Lakewood then because there was a big matzav and it was very clear that these stuff are forbidden

The dealership rims are permissible as long as it’s not covering up any part of the written words on the plate such as New Jersey on the top and Garden State on the bottom.

Pure anti Semitism. If there were no
Jewish stickers on the van I doubt the plate covers would have been noticed 🙁

Another example of government working against the people rather than for the people. Government should be treated like medicine; a necessary evil to be needed on limited and rare occasions. Instead, government has grown into the monster it is today and completely tramples on our constitution. Our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves…

The plate clearly says New Jersey so why was he ticketed?

He was ticketed because you cannot read “Garden State”. Please read comments before commenting so you are not confused.

Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves. They may actually get up and take a stand on this issue.

Let’s be honest. The plate #s are clearly visible. Any cop ticketing for this is not the kind of cop I would want policing any community. Waste of time and he doesnt seem sensitive to what ordinary citizens feel policing priorities should be.

I also got a ticket for this, and when I told my leasing company about it they said that they would pay for the ticket. I said that I would remove the plate holders but they said they would rather have the plate holders thetr for the advertisement and it is worth it for them to pay for any tickets that I get for it

And when your’e sitting on the side of the road, pulled over at 12:30am with a car-full of screaming kids, remember to call & thank your leasing company!

Kudos to Anchor auto leasing who purposely designed his plate rims so it does NOT cover any part of the plate. Truithfully, tho, if NEW Jersey is legible, really, do you need “garden State” to also be legible. I know its the law; its just a stupid law.

Keep the frame on !!!! great advertising method for the lease company and when ure being pulled and you’re nice and respectful to the cop he may exchange your ticket with pts for this type of ticket ! I’ve had that already ! Now everybodys happy! The cop! You! And the lease company! oh and let’s not forget the state!

My Daughter is a POLICE OFFICER. I want herto be able to read the plates clearly when pulling over a vechicle, in case they need to find the person later, if injury to the POLiCE OFFICER occured

Chaimyankel

@ help: seriously? You’re worried your not going to find a possible thug because part of “garden state” was covered? You might’ve been better off if your daughter were a licensed psychiatrist.

Huh???

To help – please forgive me if this is our of order, but if it clearly says nj, how does seeing “Garden State” help or hinder locating and/or identifying a vehicle?

Ben

This is actualy a blessing in disguise if you get a nice cop.

I was once pulled over for speeding and since it was my first time the cop said he will save me the 100s of dollars and only give me for this. So if i wouldnt have had this i dont know what he could have given me for.
Save it for a rainy day 🙂

Police must have a reason (probable cause)to stop a vehicle if they suspect illegal activity, partial plate blocking is a perfect opportunity for them to stop you in hopes of finding another reason for a summons,. Perhaps they witnessed a child unbuckled in the back seat or not sure if the saw you texting and wanted to have a solid reason for pulling you over to check it out. I doubt a Lakewood police officer pulled over this vehicle for that.. there are thousands of aggresive drivers who need to be ticketed and i dont see them pulling anyone over.

there are so many cars in Lakewood with overdue inspection stickers saw one the other day 2015 another one new York plates with a nj sticker I counted over 30 of them in 1 day that’s more important then covering the garden state on the plate also some police cars have e-pass tags on the front plate covering new jersey but that’s ok give me a break
