Camps, Schools Urged To Ensure Children Remain Hydrated

Thirsty boy drinking water outdoorsURGENT: With temperatures expected to reach breaking records today, over 100 at times, a local Official has requested that TLS remind all School and Camp personnel to ensure children continuously drink water throughout the day, and that prolonged stays outdoors be avoided as much as possible. It can only take a few hours for a child to get dehydrated.

As the level of water loss increases, more symptoms can become apparent. The following are further signs and symptoms of dehydration:

  • dry mouth,
  • the eyes stop making tears,
  • sweating may stop,
  • muscle cramps,
  • nausea and vomiting,
  • heart palpitations, and
  • lightheadedness (especially when standing).
