Camp Levavi: The Way Camp Was Meant to Be

This summer, Camp Levavi will be opening its doors to campers on its amazing campgrounds!

An incredible summer of warmth, kindness and connection, Camp Levavi is where every girl’s heart is.

The following is a Q&A with Mrs. Aliza Yurman, the Camp Director.

Q. Hi, Aliza. This is Esther, a mother of two teenage daughters who are interested in Camp Levavi. Can you explain what type of camp this is? What kind of crowd are you anticipating? Activities? Specialties? What’s your background? Have you done this before?

A. Hi, Esther. Thanks for reaching out. Let’s start with the last question first.

My name is Aliza Yurman. My experience, first and foremost, was as a camper. I grew up in Eretz Yisroel, but traveled to the Catskills for camp each summer. I was a real camp girl, and soon discovered its magical powers to transform our childhood and teenage years. I would literally look forward to camp, counting the days all year long!

Now back in the Five Towns, where I’m raising my family, I’ve been a high school teacher and camp director for several years, running a spectacular camp program for local girls.

For a while now, I’ve been listening to chatter from parents and teens alike about how they wish there would be a camp where their talents can shine, where they can form genuine friendships and not be in a pressure cooker all summer long. And so I set out on an ambitious goal to create a camp that will fill this essential need.

Mrs. Aliza Schwadel, my program director, has been in chinuch for fourteen years, and has directed many award-winning productions and plays. Our camp Rav is the Rabbi Yehuda Orlansky, TC Director is Mrs. Chaya Faige Bar, and we are joined by a handpicked staff.

Our scenic camp grounds are located in northern New Jersey, not far from the Poconos and the Upper Delaware Recreational Area. We’ve got a stunning waterfront, which means amazing water activities are available without ever leaving the camp grounds.

Q. Sounds great! What, would you say, is Levavi’s mission statement?

A. Great question. Levavi is all about good, old fashioned summer fun, without the pressure and tension of having to look a certain way and be part of a certain vibe. It’s the way camp is really meant to be.

We are planning an all-around wholesome program, exciting trips and adventures, including waterfront activities, (rowboats, paddle boats, and more) learning new skills, and lots of camaraderie and connection with girls from all over the US and beyond.

Most importantly, it’s a camp where everyone is cherished and valued, where there are endless opportunities to connect, to develop every girl’s talents and leadership abilities.

Q. What type of campers are you aiming for?

We’ve got quite a mix, with lots of campers already registered from the Five Towns, Queens and Brooklyn, Monsey, Lakewood and Passaic and even Canada and the Midwest. We don’t cater to a specific ‘type’ or mentality. Our camp, for grades 7-11, is for a solid Bais Yaakov girl who wants to have a summer of connection, of wholesome fun without going over the top.

Our camp atmosphere will be warm, with an emphasis on kindness, connection, and late night DMC’s. Of course we’re planning a spectacular program, a high-end performance, and lots of really great trips.

Space is limited in our four-week program, as we are nearly full. So don’t delay. Give us a call at 804-4-LEVAVI or email us at [email protected] for more details.
