Buried In Trash? Lakewood Residents Have Several Options

dpw_trash_pickup_tlsEven though Lakewood Township offices are closed Friday, December 31, the Lakewood Township Committee – spearheaded by Committeeman Meir Lichtenstien – has made arrangements with the Lakewood Public Works Department to help residents get rid of their trash.

1. First of all, anyone who normally has trash collection on Friday should put out the trash tomorrow, Thursday, December 30 for pickup, as earlier reported on TLS.

2. Residents can also bring their trash to the Municipal lot in the Lakewood Public Works complex, Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire Avenue, on both Thursday, December 30 and Friday, December 31 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from noon to 3:00 p.m.

3. Everybody who has trash pickup on Monday, January 3; Tuesday, January 4; or Thursday, January 6, who may have missed recent trash collections, will have a double trash collection if they care to put out their trash twice in one day.

Residents should put out their trash on the morning of their normally scheduled day. The trash will be collected on that day. Then, if they can refill their trash cans by 2:30 p.m., a second trash pickup will take place later the same day or early the next morning.

If you do NOT require a second pickup, please bring in your empty trash cans as soon as possible to avoid having the truck stop to pick up empty cans.

  1. Thanks! Good idea-the double pickup. I spent the last 2 days cleaning out my basement. Now I have 3 Big bags of garbage in addition to my regular household garbage. I will wait till Monday afternoon to take them out.

  2. Where are all the mayor bashers and the DPW bashers?! Here they go again going out of their way to help us in this unfortunate situation and kudos to all of them!!
btw Bloomberg announced today that 70 percent of residential streets in NY havent been plowed yet!!
Langert for mayor of NY anyone?

  3. are they serious?!? Its really nice and sweet of them to offer the double trash pick up, but what about all those people in this town that actually do work? I’m not using my lunch break to go home to reload my trash cans!

  4. feel free to bring your trash bins to public works, but if I see a repeat of passover where young children were sitting out of the back of minivans holding onto trash bins as the cars were driven, I WILL call the police and I WILL call child services.

  5. what good is the double pickup. Where the world are we supposed to hold the garbage until Monday = a full extra week? in the house? outside for the animals to eat? any suggestions cuz Whispering pines looks like one big disgusting overloaded garbage dump…

  6. Why double trash most people just added their new trash next to the bins of old trash. Just take the extra bags lying besides the cans???
    why bother double pickup times????

  7. Does anyone know if they are still coming to collect garbage south of the lake tomorrow? The recycling truck came in the morning. I spoke to public works and they said that there is pickup today (wednesday) but they never came to pick up regular garbage. Should we leave the pails out or are they not coming anymore? If you have any info please post.

  8. Does anyone know if that useless inspector still looks in the dumpster to see if you threw out an empty can of soda in the regular trash? Pity the loss of gas he uses to drive around town.

  9. No Thank you to the DPW that tells everyone that Thursday garbage pick up will happen on Thursday and then comes around on Wednesday. TLS if DPW tells you the wrong info on Tuesday they should take the time to update you on Wednesday. Luckily a neighbor was home, saw the truck, and shlepped my bins to the street.
PS Maybe a repeat of passover schedules with dumpsters placed in strategic areas over Thursday would have been a good idea!
