A burglar scared himself out of the building he burglarized after using a fire extinguisher to break a glass, which set off the fire alarm, police say.
At about 12:55 AM on October 22, a man made forced entry to the Kamenitz Yeshivah on Monmouth Avenue, and proceeded to burglarize the school, Liutenant Steve Allaire tells TLS.
During the burglary, the burglar used a fire extinguisher to gain access to a classroom, but the extinguisher released its spray chemical, setting off the alarm and scaring off the suspect, Allaire says.
The burglar made off with several charity boxes with an unknown amount of cash.
Police are also investigating another burglary that occurred at a school on Park Avenue.
In that incident, which occurred on October 22 at around 3:50 AM, the burglars made their way through an unlocked window, and made off with a leaf blower, as well as with cash from 20 charity boxes – each containing about $10, Allaire says.
Lakewood’s Detective Bureau and CSI are investigating the incidents.
