PHOTO: On May 17th, Patrolman Paul Catalina of the Brick Township Police Department and K-9 Duke graduated from the Toms River Police Department Canine Academy, class number seven. The K-9 academy is a vigorous 16 week school where the handlers and dogs, working as a team, are trained in criminal apprehension, crowd control, tracking, building searches, article searches, obedience and agility.
Ptl. Paul Catalina has been with the Brick Township Police Department since December of 2006 and has been a law enforcement officer since 2002. Patrolman Catalina is the twelfth K-9 officer in the history of the Brick Township Police Department. He was chosen for the K-9 unit in late 2012 and now joins Officer’s Keith Prenderville and Dan Fogarty as the third member of the K-9 unit. The K-9 unit is supervised by Sgt. Steven Gerling, who retired his K-9, Cody, after 10 years of service.
K-9 Duke is a 20-month-old Dutch Shepherd, who arrived from Holland earlier this year. K-9 Duke is now patrol certified and will be working 7pm to 3am shift. K-9 Duke is the 15th canine placed in service by the Brick Police Department. K-9 Duke stays at home with Officer Catalina and they are scheduled to go to narcotics school later this year. [TLS]
Why doesn’t the Lakewood Police Dept have a K9. They seam to lack the modern police tools other police have .
To k9 … Lakewood had a k9 unit years ago but unfortunately it was disband.
Hey K9: the answer to your question “money”. You can’t keep cutting budgets and expect to have modern equipment.
I think Lkaewood should get a K9 Unit, just look at how many times we have to call in other towns and the County to help us out.
The Lakewood pd would benefit greatly from having a K-9 unit
After looking at the video of the Memorial on friday and the hafganas in yerushalayim I think we need a horse unit, Maybe Dr Roberts can sponsor it? He has been a big help to this town and the police foundation
Congrats to Brick PD.
