The Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is actively investigating the Lanes Mill Road crash which left pedestrian James Cox in critical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The suspect vehicle that fled the scene which was originally described by a witness as a 2005 or newer dark red Nissan 4-door sedan has been expanded upon.
After obtaining video footage, the vehicle appears to have been a newer 4-door sedan, dark in color possibly gray or blue., says Sgt Henry Drew of the Brick Police Department. Models to be considered are a Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry or Nissan Maxima. The license plate number of the vehicle is believed to contain the letters “C”, “H” and “Z” as part of the registration.
The video footage also reveals that the volume of vehicular traffic in the area was heavy at the time of the crash. Based on the footage, there should have been several motorists that observed the crash or observed the suspect vehicle that briefly pulled over to the side of the roadway before fleeing. Anyone who witnessed either is asked to contact the Traffic Safety Unit immediately.
The Traffic Safety Unit is also asking the public to report any unusual activity in their area such as:
• Vehicles parked and covered
• Vehicles parked in backyards of a residence
• Vehicles parked in a garage
• Vehicles left in parking lots for the past few days
• Vehicles that are no longer at a particular location
All that would normally be visible in front of a residence.
Anyone who may information regarding the vehicle and driver that fled the scene is asked to contact Officer Jay Lampiasi at 732-262-1141, or Detective David Margentino at 732-929-2027, extension 2946. [TLS]
