UPDATED – VIDEO: Firefighters spent over an hour Thursday battling a fully-involved home fire on Glen Avenue in Lakewood.
The fire started around 5:20 PM when residents were reportedly grilling on their rear deck.
The grill reportedly flipped over, setting fire to the deck. A propone tank reportedly caught fire as well.
The fire quickly spread to the home, and shot flames through the roof in minutes. The dry weather conditions also fueled the fire.
Dozens of emergency personnel responded, including EMS, Lakewood First Aid, and Hatzolah members.
There are no reports of injuries, but the home is completely destroyed.
UPDATE: A Fire Department official tells TLS either the grill toppled, or possibly a marshmallow on fire dropped to the ground, setting the deck and ultimately the home on fire.
The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s office is conducting the investigation.

The whole street is backed up with gawkers. Emergency vehicles can not get through.
Where is this fire?
to Hello…
the only way you would know that is if you were there too… just saying
A huge thank you to Lakewood’s brave firefighters who are there for us all. may we never need their services…..
Grills don’t belong on wood decks period.
To my brothers in bunker gear it’s great to see you out there battling the dragon sadly once again but you do no matter the risk. I miss being there beside you working to tame the raging flames as their flickering fingers reach for the sky trying to fly
Are the people who live there משלנו ?
I cant help but feel horrible and sad for this family that in one second lost their home and all their possessions. I sincerely hope that somehow things will just work out for them and they will be able to get back on their feet better then before.
Wow. So glad no one was hurt. Regarding one comment, we’ve had our grill on our deck for years. You could hardly push it, let alone fall over. Prayers to the family. I hope the damage is reparable.
when I heard the fire engines flying through the streets I knew there must of been a real general alarm. I quickly said tehillim and called my family who live near by to make sure everything was ok. DOES THIS FAMILY NEED A PLACE FOR SHABBOS?
Pls post if the family needs anything.
‘Help’ asked the same question as ‘Lpd’, but with a bit of finesse.
Yes this family is yidden and they need everything from money to linen to clothing to everyday basics for their family. they do not have anything to call their own . Everything is gone and destroyed. If anyone owns any stores that can give them some things it’ll be a real mitzva.
I will post a contact number when it becomes available .
This should serve us as a reminder to check our insurance policies to make sure we have the proper insurance coverage, the only reason we have insurance is to protect us when there is a loss. If we aren’t properly covered, the insurance is not worth much. There are a few things that are quite important.
1) Correct building value
2) Adequate personal property (content coverage)
3) Many times overlooked is replacement cost on the contents in your home. Most policies start with actual cash value and can get endorsed to have replacement cost. The difference is, that Actual cash value only replaces the depreciated couch value in your living room, while replacement cost would buy you a new couch.
4) Most policies have discount because you have smoke detectors. Please for your own protection instal them properly. If you receive the credit for smoke detectors but fail to have it installed, you may be denied coverage in case of fire, chas vi shalom.
I can review your policy for you free of charge to be certain you are covered properly.
You can send me your policy to [email protected] or you can call at 732-806-0001
It would be my pleasure to make sure you have the right coverage.

Hey M Fishman Insurance, it is very tacky of you to try to profit on some ones misfortune. Your posting is not a public service just a selfish attempt to profit.
