The Trump administration will release billions of dollars in grants to schools for adult literacy, English language instruction and other programs, including nearly $160 million for New Jersey schools, the Education Department announced this afternoon.
The freeze, which the administration maintained was in order to ensure spending aligned with the White House’s priorities, was challenged in court by two dozen states.
“OMB has completed its review of Title I-C, Title II-A, Title III-A, and Title IV-A ESEA funds and Title II WIOA funds, and has directed the Department to release all formula funds. The agency will begin dispersing funds to states next week,” Madi Biedermann, deputy assistant secretary for communications for the Education Department, said in a statement.
The affected funds have traditionally supported a range of longstanding educational programs, including afterschool care, summer learning, teacher training, and services for English learners and students with special needs.
The State of New Jersey received over $46 million under Title II-Part A in fiscal year 2024, money which is used by many Yeshivos for professional development and other crucial services.
States typically receive approximately 25% of these education funds on or about July 1 each year, allowing local education agencies to plan their budgets and staffing for the academic year. However, on June 30, the U.S. Department of Education informed states that it would not be obligating the funds for six key formula-based education programs.

“Grants”. Hmmmmm…
From what magical source does all this free money come from???
How does it affect the private schools?
Yes. So for all the idiots out there that said the Administration was cutting Education funding to New Jersey , we can say that was “ fake news “.
What is professional development?
I would like to know that answer too.
It is generally either in service training or other training managed by the state in order to keep your professional license.
There are companies that will sell you a bundle of trainings or courses for a couple hundred bucks done give you the certificates necessary after you pass a test on the material.
Teachers forced to listen to the same information for the millionth time while wishing they were in their classroom or even on hall duty.
