BREAKING UPDATE: Patient Hospitalized with Ebola-Like Symptoms Has Malaria, Sources say

kmc ebola ptPHOTO: The patient hospitalized last night in Lakewood with Ebola-like symptoms may in fact has Malaria, sources told TLS.

Officials in Lakewood were notified by the CDC today that the patient returning from Africa did not have the deadly Ebola disease, and the Malaria disease did not appear life-threatening.

As first reported by The Lakewood Scoop, the Neptune man was hospitalized from the WaWa shopping center where he was seen vomiting. He also displayed other symptoms consistent with the deadly disease.

haz ebolaOfficials immediately contacted health officials and Haz-Mat to respond for testing, and isolated the people involved.

Pictured, is a suited-up nurse from Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus outside the room where the patient is being held.

“The nurse in the suit was placed outside his room to tend to him after he was isolated,” a person who witnessed the commotion at the hospital told TLS.

A patient at the hospital sent the following to TLS:

haz 4“I got to the hospital around 9:40…..When I came out I walked by a black male being treated in an open curtain area. There were many people around him including EMT’s and I believe a police officer or two. Within 20 minutes of his arrival he was placed in the room right next to mine, and nurses started to scramble. A few nurses were told not to go into other patients rooms because they had been exposed. A cleaning lady was called to clean some machines. One male nurse was put into full hazmat clothing, and was seated outside his room. He was attending to the patient. I believe patient to be in his 30’s-40’s judging from what I saw. He had a high temp of 105 and vomiting. He stated he had been to London and Nigeria recently. His family members verified that information. The police said he had been in a car with a empty blue drum. The man stated he had found the drum and didn’t know what might have been in it.

A police officer was concerned for the safety of his family and asked the Infectious Disease woman if he had Reason to worry. She stated that he wouldn’t be contagious until symptoms appeared. Incubation would be 7-21 days. They talked about Malaria and Ebola. The infectious disease women  came in and was making calls to various agencies. When I asked of my safety and my daughters safety the nurses downplayed my concerns.”

State officials tell TLS they will be issuing an official statement soon.
