The suspect in last night’s shooting is in custody, police tell TLS.
At approximately 10:18 pm last night, Lakewood Police Officers, responded to the parking lot located at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Cedarbridge Avenue for a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, the officers immediately began to canvass the area on foot for possible suspects, victims, and evidence of a shooting. During the canvass, several shell casings were located, which prompted the response of the Ocean County Sheriffs Crime Scene Investigations Unit.
While processing the scene, information was developed indicating that the gunman, who was described as a heavy-set black male wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and red shoes, fled the area in a silver Nissan Maxima.
Just after midnight, Officer John Macerino located the silver Nissan Maxima while conducting a check of the Highpoint Condominium Complex. Officer Macerino noted three males standing outside the vehicle, one of whom matched the description of the shooting suspect. Upon the observation, several more officers responded to the area to approach the men.
The subjects, identified as 28-year-old Randall Moore, 28-year-old Armar Keys and 33-year-old Candido Jackson Jr., all of Lakewood, were then transported back to Police Headquarters without incident.
Keys and Moore were released from headquarters without charges after speaking with detectives. However, Candido Jackson Jr. was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was later transported to the Ocean County Jail.
Surveillance video from a nearby building captured the moment of the shooting, and the crowd fleeing as the gunshots ring out.
