The US Senate voted 52-48 to confirm President Trump’s nominee Amy Coney Barrett to the US Supreme Court.
Barrett, 48, will become the 115th Associate Justice on the Supreme Court, which is now tipped favorably toward conservatives 6-3. She will be sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas this evening at a 9 PM ceremony at the White House, with the participation of President Trump.
Barrett’s nomination and confirmation come amid heated debate whether it is appropriate for a president to nominate a new justice so close to a presidential election and Democrats’ threats to pack the Supreme Court with more justices.
The confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett by the Senate cements President Trump’s legacy on the judicial system, having now installed 3 Supreme Court justices and a total of 220 justices at all levels.
