President Joe Biden tonight declared a State of emergency in New Jersey and approved federal assistance to aid state and local governments’ response to severe damage and deaths incurred by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.
At least 23 people have been confirmed killed in Wednesday night’s storm, and damage across the stage is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions.
Biden’s declaration authorizes the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate all disaster relief efforts in New Jersey.
Specifically, FEMA is authorized to “identify, mobilize, and and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.”
