BREAKING PHOTOS: Robbery Witness Chases Down Suspect, Holds Him in Chokehold until Police Arrive

14A robbery suspect was apprehended moments after his act, after a civilian witnessed it and chased him down, sources tell TLS.

The suspect allegedly snatched a woman’s purse in the area of 4th Street and Clifton Avenue shortly after 10 AM, but after a nearby driver witnessed it, he sprung into action, according to witnesses.

The driver chased down the suspect and caught up to him in the area of 4th Street and Forest Avenue. That’s when he jumped him from behind and put him in a chokehold, while bystanders phoned police.

Photos taken by bystanders and submitted to TLS show the robbery witness laying on top of the suspect as they wait for police.

Multiple officers arrived moments later, and quickly placed the robbery suspect under arrest, police confirm.

“He had the cash in his hand,” a witness told TLS. (See photo)

The incident is being investigated by Lakewood’s Detective Bureau.

  1. who is the guy he is a real rockstar i thn i would also have the gutz to do that and i was always looking for someone that would do the same. Thank whoever you are

  2. I would be afraid to do that – in our society, the guy could sue you for malpractice and medical chokehold disasters and loss of work – I am really proud of your old fashioned HEROISM and valiant resourceful behaviour. Thank you for your selfless act – and may you be blessed !

  3. A nice act, however:

There are no good samaritan laws to protect you in this situation (unlike laws that protect you if you try to render medical aid to someone). He may very well sue this man for any damages, both physical or mental that were incurred as a result of being detained in a choke-hold. I would never risk my life or financial well being over a stolen purse. If someone’s life were in danger, that’s a different story and we all have a moral duty to help. In this case? Penny wise, pound foolish.

  4. I generally never respond to blogs. However I was so moved after reading about this person’s courageous actions, I feel he should be honored in a public award ceremony. He went above and beyond what would be expected from the average citizen, (assisting the victim and calling the police). I feel the General Public owes this man a debt of gratitude. I wish I knew who to call to make this happen, anyone have any ideas?

  5. if he is a hero he saw from the beginning when the man stole my bag in Clifton Avenue I followed till the street four I will remove my bag but the guy stealing my money I could no longer follow him more then, He reach the man in the forest and caught him till the police arrived
