FIRST REPORT! Photos and exclusive video below. (Upon request from officials, video has been muted). We have just received reports that Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood’s warehouse has been shut down for not having a permit to distribute food. We will bring you details as soon as they are available.
U/D 4:45 p.m TLS has just returned from the scene. The story is as follows: A Howell officer arrived saying the PD received complaints from neighbors regarding noise. The officer then notified the Monmouth Health Department what was taking place at the Tomchei Shabbos warehouse. The Health Department immediately came down and ordered the operations to stop and the food confiscated. Meir Lichtenstien and Menashe Miller immediately contacted Mayor Bob Singer, who got on the phone with Howell Mayor Bob Walsh and Monmouth Freeholder Robert Clifton to correct the matter. TLS just spoke to Mayor Singer who said, “they were extremely forthcoming and helpful”. “they understood the severity of the situation and how a food bank these days are so desperately needed and we thank them for that”. The Health Department agreed to allow the food to be transferred to another location, aside from the eggs which must remain for health reasons. Tomchei Shabbos is currently in the process of moving the thousands of boxes and pallets to the Bais Tova building. A big thank you must be given to Menashe Miller, Meir Lichtenstien and Mayor Bob Singer for coming to the rescue at such a desperate moment. Photos and video will be posted shortly.
