Suspect In Lakewood-Howell Bank Robberies, Arrested

suspect_bank_robbery_lakewoodFIRST REPORT: The man suspected in robbing several area banks has been arrested and charged, Detective Lieutenant Paul Daly tells TLS. Kevin Schear, 34, of Jackson, (pictured), was wanted by the FBI who they believe is the same man who pulled off bank heists at the Sovereign Bank on Madison Avenue in Lakewood on Sept. 15; the Wachovia Bank on Route 9 in Howell on Sept. 27; a failed robbery attempt at The Bank on East Kennedy Boulevard, and the most recent robbery Garden State Community Bank in Howell.

All the bank robberies had a similar trademark, the fact that a note was handed to the teller but no weaopon was shown, although claiming he had one.

Lakewood’s Detective Bureau received a tip from a man who recognized the suspect from the picture taken from security cameras at Lakewood’s Sovereign Bank, and notified the police, Daly said.

In a joint effort, Lakewood Detectives – Detective Robert Humeny and Detective Steve Wexler – Jackson Police and the FBI staked out at the suspect’s residence in Jackson for some time, and when the suspect showed up, he was immediately taken into custody.

At this time, Schear is being charged with 1st Degree Bank Robbery for the robbery of Sovereign Bank in Lakewood.

Charges on the other bank are still pending.

He is being held at the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. TLS.
