BREAKING: Lakewood DMV Shut After Employee Tests Positive For COVID

The Lakewood Department of Motor Vehicles location has been shut after an employee who works at the facility tested positive for Covid-19.

The location will reopen on Saturday, November 28th, after proper precautions are taken to ensure the virus is not spread to more staff members at the location or visitors.

Visitors to the Lakewood location have been frustrated at the lengthy wait times and limited slots available to conduct their business, and this setback is expected to further back up already-excruciatingly long waits for service.

  1. this is seriously nuts. Someone should take over the DMV and run it like a business. we have a new (used) car that we can’t register so we can’t drive.
my son passed his road test months ago and has yet to get his license because he doesn’t have 6 hours to sit and wait.
every other business can manage except for these government run places. seriously crazy!!!

  2. This is utterly insane. So now they have to close for 2 weeks? Can’t they figure something out or because it’s bureaucracy no one can think for themselves? Enough is enough.

    • is that for new licenses also? I don’t think they are giving appts for that… the appts are only for things that can anyways be done online as far as I know… If not – please give me the link for that as I know many teens who don’t have 6 hours to wait and cant get their licenses even after passing their road tests. additionally this transaction cant even be done in Lakewood need to go to Toms River or Freehold which most likely would have bigger lines now that Lakewood has shut down.

  3. We tried that. Its weeks of waiting if not months. We actually had an appt 2 weeks ago and the dmv we were going to (Not in lakewood) shut down cuz employee got covid. Canceled all the appts.
    Happens all the time.
    Very very frustrating.
