A motion filed by the Jackson Police Chief to remove the current Public Safety Director from office, was struck down by a judge moments ago, TLS has learned.
Chief of Police, Matthew Kunz, is currently suing Jackson Township and the Director of Public Safety, Joseph Candido, in an attempt to have him removed from his appointed position, which was confirmed by the administration and passed by the council. He claimed Candido could not be made Public Safety Director, due to his position at the time within the Department.
Today, the judge denied the preliminary injunction without prejudice, which means that Director Candido will remain in his role.
“We are pleased with what we consider a positive outcome in court today,” Council President Jennifer L. Kuhn and Council Vice President Mordechai Burnerstein told TLS in a joint statement. “The council supports this decision, as we believe the department benefits from his leadership. We have observed several positive changes under his guidance in less than a year in the position.”
