[UPDATE: 8:48pm] U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba says a civilian employee of the federal government has been arrested for “conveying false information” regarding today’s report of an active shooter at Joint Base McGuire.

“This kind of senseless fear-mongering and disruption will not be tolerated in my state,” Habba said in a statement.

“After everything this country has gone through, especially in light of current events, I will be sure to bring down the hammer of the law for anyone found guilty of creating unnecessary panic and undermining public trust,” she added.

As first reported on TLS, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey was placed on lockdown earlier today following a security incident that prompted a large response from law enforcement and emergency personnel.

According to a statement from the base, emergency personnel responded to reports of an active shooter on the base at approximately 10:58 a.m. Emergency protocols were immediately activated, and law enforcement officials arrived on scene. At 11:57 a.m., the base declared an “all clear,” determining that there was no active shooter threat.

Personnel across the entire base, which is the largest such base in the United States, were urged to remain clear of law enforcement activity as teams secured the area.

“Our priority is the safety and security of everyone on the installation,” said Col. Michael Stefanovic, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst commander. “We worked closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure the situation was investigated and resolved as quickly as possible.”

Officials emphasized that there is no current threat to the public and that updates will be shared as the investigation continues.

“THERE IS A LOCKDOWN AT JBMDL. ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO LOCKDOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALL PERSONNEL OUTDOORS SHOULD TAKE COVER.”

UPDATE 11:38 AM: “OC Sheriff Urgent Alert: As a precaution, Joint Base MDL is currently on lockdown. There is no credible threat at this time.”
