The bus driver who crashed into parked vehicles after plowing through a lawn in Lakewood today has been fired, TLS has learned.
As earlier reported, police say the driver suffered a medical episode, causing him to fall out of his seat and lose control of the vehicle.
This evening, investigators tell TLS the driver, in his fifties, has been let go from Jay’s Bus Service.
Police say the driver had “prior incidents” which contributed to the driver being fired, but did not provide details with regards to those incidents.
Officials tell TLS the internal bus cameras were not functioning at the time of the accident.
Jay’s has not released any statements regarding the accident.
The police must do an independent investigation. This driver had a known history of erratic driving. Many complaints were logged and ignored. Jay’s needs to take responsibility and make internal changes or they must be removed from servicing our children. We can’t continue to put our children at risk.
Additionally if the cameras aren’t functioning, the bus should be taken out of service.
Mazal Tov! We need to institute a vetting process for hiring drivers. Its irresponsible to look the other way.
Not surprising from Jays they could fire another 10 drivers
Do any of Jays busses actually have internal cameras that are operational?? Seems after every accident, they said that the camera wasn’t working… ????
Enlist the National Guard.
The National Guard is the way to go!!!
How were they able to verify that it was indeed a medical episode if the driver refused to be taken to the hospital? Was a drug test done in the driver? Was he on anti-seizure meds? This is precious lives of children we are risking?
How much did Jay’s pay for this PR advertisement?
