The U.S. House of Representatives have voted this afternoon to pass the massive tax cut package, referred to as The One Big Beautiful Bill,” sending it to President Trump for his signature.
Although the Senate passed the bill on Tuesday, the House had to deal with attendance issues, as they ensured every member was at the Capitol for the vote, as well as a record long floor speech, eight hours and 44 minutes, by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
The bill, which passed the house by a final vote of 218-214, extends the tax cuts enacted by the president during his first term in 2017; boosts funding for border, deportation, and national defense priorities; removes taxes on tips and overtime hours and imposes some reforms on Medicaid and raises the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, a priority for Republicans from blue states like New Jersey.
Additionally, the legislation includes a permanent and unlimited scholarship tax credit.
The groundbreaking federal school choice proposal, which has been advocated strongly for by Agudath Israel of America, survived two attempts to eliminate it and had to be revised in order to comply with the ruling of the Senate parliamentarian.
The bill provides a dollar-for-dollar tax credit to donors who contribute to a nonprofit scholarship granting organization (SGO). The SGOs then take the pooled funds and distribute scholarships to eligible students for qualified educational expenses. The beneficiaries can include most families as the income threshold is above $300,000 in many areas. In Ocean County, that would be just over $410,000 annually.
The revised version allows every taxpayer to receive a credit of up to $1700 and removed the annual cap on donations among other changes. Agudah expects that this will help generate hundreds of millions of dollars in K-12 scholarships for those wishing to attend Jewish schools.
President Trump is expected to sign the bill at a White House ceremony on Friday, July 4th – the day of his self-imposed deadline.
This is a developing story and will be updated

Very convenient that you left out all of the extremely harmful effects this bill would have on those getting Medicaid or snap
Your just repeating mainstream media FAKE news!!!
Mazel Tov Klal Yisroel and Avi for School Choice!!!
Without having Avi (and all others) as Hashems partner we wouldn’t be holding here.
I know it’s hard for you to comprehend but facts aren’t fake. Personally, this bill is really good for me and I’m happy about it, but many other people in this town won’t be so happy when they lose their benefits. Forewarned is forearmed.
From what I read, the only people it would affect are those that are able bodied couch potatoes. Thank God that doesn’t apply to many people around here.
Agree
How many Lakewood residents will lose Medicaid and or Snap ?
the illegal ones.
Why should they be getting snap or Medicaid?
Possibly those who are in a kollel that is not a registered college so according to the government they are not a student and not working. But they probably can work it out by either showing that they are getting an education or even volunteering for 20 hrs a week
Thank you. I was alluding to this study situation. I am a firm believer in “work fare” as you will.
Nobody should get a free ride at the expense of others
undocumented immigrants don’t get snap
Many Lakewood residents do, and will be impacted by the cuts.
They can go work for 20 hours. If they can prove that they can’t do that, because they are disabled or have young children then they won’t be cut.
Thank you for an honest answer
The dollar for dollar tax credit is capped at $1700. That is really not a lot.
The 1700 cap seems is per donor. It is unlimited on the recipient end as far as I understand. Many sources of capped 1700 equals a lot more than 1700 per student
