BREAKING: Gov. Murphy announces he’s recommending the cancellation of all public gatherings of 250+ people due to coronavirus [VIDEO]

“Social distancing works. This is our best chance to mitigate the chance of exposure & rapid spread of #COVID19,” the Governor said.

The ban would include parades, concerts, and sporting events.

The Governor released the following statement:

“Today, based on guidance we have received from the Commissioner of Health, we are recommending the cancellation of all public gatherings throughout New Jersey of more than 250 individuals, including concerts, sporting events, and parades. These measures are being taken as part of our coordinated response to the continued outbreak and to aggressively mitigate the spread of the virus. Additionally, for all events, we recommend that everyone practice commonsense hygiene, like washing hands routinely, staying home if you do not feel well, and keeping a six-foot distance from others.

“Our frontline efforts right now must be to aggressively mitigate the potential for exposure and further spread. We are taking this step because social distancing works. It is our best chance to ‘flatten the curve’ and mitigate the chance of rapid spread, so we can respond to this public health emergency in an even more focused manner.”

  1. US population: about 330 million
US coronavirus cases: 1,336 (and 36 deaths)

    NJ population: about 4 million
NJ coronavirus cases: 23 (and 1 death)

    • This is completely false. This is the number of confirmed cases. Because there is almost no testing going on. Call Chemed yourself, you can beg for a test but if you dont meet a lot of criteria you will not get a test as they simply dont have enough. This is true country wide. So there are probably tens of thousands lo aleinu with the virus but cannot be tested,

  2. If this became law, it would effectively outlaw all our weddings and 50% of our Bar Mitzvas, which is terrible.
Sadly, however, it may be the only way to keep this virus in check.

  3. Sure why not ? A joke of a governor.. There are 20 cases in NJ with 8,000,000 people so lets just follow other states that are going through with these closures and make a panic. Georgian Court College closed for a week..Why??? Anyone sick out there?

Is he going to help economically like taking away the tolls on the highways and bridges? Suspend state taxes on all products?
No just let us know whass our hands…hmm I though I learnt that in Kindergarten….
The world is going insane… Can someone please logically explain this to me??

    • CY, yes it is super widespread but test kits are not available. We need to look at area’s such as Italy. As of March 11th there are over 12,000 confirmed case with 1016 deaths. The death rate went up 31% in 24 hours. This is not a joking matter. In South Korea they are doing about 10,000 tests a day and performed over 210,000 tests. In the USA the greatest and wealthiest country only performed 8500 tests thus far according to the CDC. We are lacking tests so impossible to know how widespread it is. Not trying to cause panic but this is serious.

  4. Georgian court is closed. Not going back in a week…..Lots of colleges are done for the year everything on line, very smart…Lots of people are buying to much….As of 250 only, that will have to happen in stores also. Enough with 400 in costco. People fighting. Some will get hurt. I would not be shopping with 400 people and think there is no virus there.Use your head not shopping carts……
