A federal judge has sentenced former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez to 11 years in prison after being found guilty on all 16 counts last year, becoming the first sitting member of Congress to be convicted of acting as a foreign agent.
Prior to today’s sentencing, his attorneys, who requested he be sentenced to no more than 27 months in prison, said they will appeal the verdict.
Today’s ruling completes a stunning fall for the former Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and longtime political force in the state, who was forced to resign last August following a 50-year career.
Earlier in the day, two of Menendez’s co-defendants received lengthy prison terms for their roles in the corruption schemes, which led to Menendez’s attorneys to revise their request to a punishment of eight years in prison, instead of 27 months.
Fred Daibes, a New Jersey real estate developer, was sentenced to seven years in prison and a fine of $1.75 million.
And Wael Hana, an Egyptian American businessman, was sentenced to slightly more than eight years in prison and a fine of $1.3 million.
All three plan on appealing their sentences.
should of been in jail years ago
Should have
Goose wants to see Obama sit for his Crimes. Gossage isn’t certain as to why the Dems decided that they’ll bury this guy over the rest of them but nonetheless now with President Trump the real criminal gang like Eric Holder, Obama and many others better gear up for long prison sentences!
Gossage out!
About time
I hope Donald Trump pardons him. He was a friend to our community and helped so many people. His wife is sick with cancer and although he did wrong , his service , age and family circumstances should be taken to account .
Wrong. How much good could have really done for Klal Yisroel while being in the pockets of terror supporting countries like Egypt and Qatar. He bought your Lakewood votes and stabbed the Klal in the back. With friends like this garbage can can, who needs enemies.
He’s a crook….no pardon. What service he didn’t enlist in the military.
After voting to impeach Trump twice, there is no chance that Trump will pardon him. It was a chutzpa of him to even ask.
Its a happy ending for those of us that want to see corrupt politicians prosecuted for their crimes.
Bob manandez was so nice to us .. was a few months during corona we could not get our daughters passport for seminary… we called him he got it to us in 2 days.. and helped many others ..
Even Al Capone was nice guy sometimes…but he was still a crook.
Nothing new.
Jersey politicians aren’t not the most corrupt in the nation, but are probably in the top 30%.
The question is what did he do that triggered the insiders to go after him?
The sentence of 11 years in prison is not fitting for the alleged crimes. Even if the crimes were done this punishment is much too harsh.
It is especially so when we all know that career corrupt politicians like the Clintons, Biden, Pelosi have gotten off Scott free.
