Lakewood Board of Education President Barry Iann has resigned – this time though it appears it’s final.
The President submitted his resignation moments ago.
Iann initially resigned last month, but he was asked to reconsider his resignation and remain on the Board – as first reported by TLS.
During his initial resignation Iann wrote, “I regret to inform you that I am hereby tendering my resignation from the Board of Education effective immediately,” Iann wrote in an email to Board and District officials. “Due to personal and business reasons, I feel that I can no longer effectively serve the children of Lakewood. I wish you much success in your future endeavors.”
Today, Iann wrote, “I sought to resign from the School Board last month. You asked me then to stay on and I agreed. An effective leader is able to unite a Board on key issues. It is clear to me that although you asked me to stay on, I cannot achieve such unity. I therefore tender my resignation from the Board.”
He added, “I am personally appreciative of your confidence in having chosen me as President, in asking me to stay on, and for sharing deep concern for the children of our District. I know that this will be your sole concern as you carefully choose a superintendent, and as you retain Board Counsel, seeking professional leaders who are able to help the district overcome its significant funding and operating challenges.”
Iann won the Board of Education seat as a write-in in 2015, and was recently reelected.
The Board will seek a replacement for his seat for the remainder of his term.
His resignation, and Islubauch turning down the offer are certainly due to the fact that there is a state monitor breathing down their backs stripping them of all power. They would just be puppets to the state monitor, so now that the state monitor deal with the mess why should they?
Get rid of the state monitors ASAP.
State monitor is there to help stop the nonsense thats been going on for years now
Open Arlington- I love you name. And I just gotta say, Amen!
If the state monitor is there to stop the nonsense ,then why has the deficit gotten do much worse since the 2 state monitors came ? Please explain. The monitor has total control so why is the deficit 3 times what it was before the monitors came. Seems like there us mire nonsense since the monitor came than there was before
