Voters from New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District, which includes Lakewood, have reelected Representative Chris Smith to a 20th term in the House of Representatives. Smith was challenged by Democrat Josh Welle, who faced an uphill battle in one of New Jersey’s reddest districts. Smith ultimately beat Welle by a final tally of 55% to 42%. Smith triumphed easily even as a Democratic wave swept out dozens of Republican House members, handing control to the Democrats in the 116th Congress.
Smith was first elected in 1981 and has served in the US House of Representatives ever since. He is the senior member serving on the House’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and sits on the U.S. Helsinki Commission, as well as on the Congressional Committee on China.
Smith has sponsored dozens of bills in the House since first being elected, most notably sponsoring Kate’s Law, which became law in 2016.
Tuesday’s victory for Smith guarantees him another 2 year term in the House before facing reelection in 2020.
Congratulations, Cong. Smith!
Keep up your great work.
Chris Smith is a public representative who truly believes in his mission to help his constituents. He goes more than the extra mile to do what he can to assist, promote and benefit citizens. May he continue to succeed and be a role model to others in public office.
Congratulations! Stupid Democrats have control of House so it doesn’t help us much! Hashem Yeracheim!
